Our story begins with Stig Harder, the 25-year-old art director and soon-to-be pioneer who in the spring of 1994 moved to Paris, searched for "fashion" on what then was a single computer in the dormitory of the founders of Yahoo, and found nothing.
With the launch of search engine FASHION NET at the outset of 1995, Harder pulled the entire field of fashion into the digital age.
The first time a fashion magazine wrote about the internet was when Harper's Bazaar wrote about us in July the same year.
Chanel, the holdout, followed in 1996 as Stig Harder's LUMIÈRE — the first exclusively online fashion magazine that was honored at the Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum for the innovative and first-ever animated editorial on the internet — was invited by the French fashion authority to cover the Paris runway shows.
Coinciding with FASHION NET's 20th anniversary, the FASHION NET Awards launched in 2015. Winners included Tom Ford, Kate Moss and Alessandro Michele.
FASHION NET gradually tranformed into the Academy of Fashion Arts and Sciences starting in 2016.
FASHION NET held an invitation-only, 100% plant-based dinner party at the Cannes Film Festival that year with Pamela Anderson in attendance.
Soon after, executive members at the Academy of Fashion Arts and Sciences selected the nominees and winners for the second FASHION NET Awards.
The Academy of Fashion Arts and Sciences was formed as a Public Benefit Corporation in 2017.
In 2018, the Academy held its first Honorary Awards in partnership with Bang & Olufsen in Beverly Hills. Recipients included Leonardo DiCaprio, Petra Nemcova, Julian Lennon, Viktoria Modesta, Moby, Jared Leto.
The FASHION NET Awards will relaunch as the annual ACADDYS® TV Special — a major awards show celebrating imagination in luxury fashion.
A beautiful mix of the stunning and the sustainable, the ACADDYS® telecast takes a global audience on a mesmerizing journey into the imaginative minds shaping the visual narrative of our collective future.
